Adobe Boot Camp: A Crash Course for InDesign & Flash

Join us for our first Adobe Boot Camp. We're breaking apart from our past overview formats and diving into much more detail this year with an all day crash course on InDesign & Flash CS4. Come hear from local experts Sean Cooke (InDesign) & Benjamin Mace (Flash) as they walk through examples of multi-paged print layouts and transform them into interactive content for the web.

Choose from either a full day option covering both suites or pick a 1/2 day session that appeals most to you. Snacks and drinks will be provided during breaks and a catered lunch will be served for attendees selecting the full day of sessions.

As an Adobe Design Master, Sean Cooke of Techead carries the most Adobe instructor certifications in Virginia and ranks within the top 20 most certified instructors nationwide. He has worked in all aspects of printing, from commercial offset and screen printing to wide-format digital and vinyl cutting. In addition, his years of pre-press and design background add to his training experience. During the InDesign session, Sean will walk through:
  • Setting up master pages, variable text placement and default colors
  • Formatting text and creating styles for paragraphs, characters, lines and tables
  • Formatting, exporting and incorporating art from Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Establishing, using and editing nested paragraph and object styles
Benjamin Mace is the Interactive Director at Grow Interactive in Norfolk, VA. He has 12 years of interactive experience and has taught Flash throughout his career. Benjamin was a co-author for Flash MX Express and has written dozens of tutorials for websites all across the web. During the Flash session, Benjamin will cover:
  • Setting up a Flash project and covering the basics of frame rate, the stage and the Flash library.
  • Creating a navigation and moving through the Flash timeline
  • Formatting content and creating a layout with text, images and video
  • Using ActionScript to create visual effects, animate content and control sound & video.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Do I need to bring a computer?  You can bring a laptop if you'd like, but you do not need one for the training.
  • What level of experience do I need to attend wither session and be able to follow along? InDesign users should be familiar with tools, palettes, making pages and formatting text. Flash users should know the basics of the timeline, library, drawing tools and using simple actions such as gotoAndPlay. Both sessions will touch briefly on these topics and move into more advanced methods throughout the day.
