Designers, start your creative engines. Come compete in AIGA Hampton Roads' first ever Design Derby.

Mix a traditional pinewood derby competition with a lot of flash and style, and you've got AIGA Hampton Roads' Design Derby 2010! Come show off and race your pinewood derby car, tricked out with your own custom design. Compete for the Best Overall Design, because slow and pretty wins the race.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Pick out your pinewood derby kit from the options below.
2. Find your inspiration and pimp your pinewood derby car.
3. Come to AJ Gators, Thursday, May 13th.
4. Show off your genius and possibly win a prize.
5. Race your car and see whose is the fastest.

WHAT YOU WIN

First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded for Best Overall Design. You can also compete for the following titles: Most Creative, Peoples Choice and Fastest Looking.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

• This is not a professional pinewood derby, so standard race rules do not apply.
• Design matters most here. The good prizes are for the Best Overall Design.
• The heavier the car is, the faster it will go.

PINEWOOD DERBY KIT OPTIONS

Easy (Drag Kit)
No carving. Just glue and go. *Note that this kit can only compete in the design competition, it cannot race on the track.

Moderate (Wedge Kit)
You don't have to carve unless you want to.

Difficult (Block Kit)
This one takes some effort and carving.

What's that? You don't have time to design a car? You don't know how? No worries! The derby is open to everyone. Members get in for free and non-members can join in on the fun for a few bucks. So come out, socialize and vote for the best car!
