Join us for a rare evening with Paula Scher as she discusses a
three-decade career of iconic design and images that speak to
contemporary audiences with emotional impact and appeal.
Brought to you in association with the Women in Design exhibit
that runs from May 8th through June 24th at the TCC Visual Arts Center.
The Visual Arts Center joins other arts institutions in Virginia in Minds Wide Open, a statewide initiative celebrating women in the arts. Women in Design
features the print and digital media of Paula Scher, Margo Chase,
Louise Fili, Karin Fong, Carin Goldberg, April Greiman, Rebeca Mendez,
Lisa Strausfeld and Deborah Sussman.
In the mid-90s her landmark identity for The Public Theater provided a new symbology for cultural institutions, and her recent architectural collaborations have re-imagined the urban landscape. Scher has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale since 1993; her work is represented in the permanent collections of several prestigious museums. She has lectured and exhibited worldwide, and her teaching career includes over two decades at the School of Visual Arts, Cooper Union, Yale University and the Tyler School of Arts. She has written articles for the AIGA Journal of Graphic Design, Print, Graphis, and in 2002 Princeton Architectural Press published her career monograph.
