Come play with us for a full day of creativity and hands on learning on how to screen print. Take that design you've been thinking about and make it real!
We'll provide you the tools and the expertise of ODU Professor Clay McClamory. All you need to bring is your artwork and what you want to print on. Print your design and frame it or put it on a tee and wear it.
Go digital or analog with your design but the challenge is to play with only two colors and in a space no larger than 12" x 14".
Once at the workshop we will print out your artwork and make an overlay. Then we will create stencils using a binary, high contrast photochemical process. Lastly, we will play with the inks and bring it to life. We will supply you the mylar, inks, tools and practice paper.
First you need to design your two-color piece no larger than 12" x 14". You can do this using any design software or do it old school analog by hand. Second, create color separations of the piece by separating each color onto its own layer. Change the color of each separation to black and make sure to add in registration marks in the outer corners. This will help you line up your artwork for printing.
If your doing it digital, save out your separated artwork as high-res jpgs and load them onto a jump drive. The workshop has Adobe CS4 Photoshop, inDesign, and Illustrator, just in case.
Bring your own paper, t-shirts or other flat materials. Just keep the following in mind: don't bring paper that has a heavy texture (like watercolor paper); smooth surface papers work best. If you bring a t-shirt or fabric item, make sure it is white or a very light color and that it is 100% cotton (or pretty darn close).
If you forget paper or don't have time to stop at the store, no worries! Paper is available for purchase at the workshop.
