Armin Vit - UnderConsideration / Speak Up

If you don't already know Armin Vit, you should. Kit Hinrichs, Stephan Sagmeister and Kevin McConkey have said as much, too, in their recent visits. His design discussion site, Speak Up, is an ever-changing, action-packed forum and resource for designers. For nearly a decade Armin has been designing, and along the way he has learned seven key issues that have defined his work, temperament and glass-half-empty skepticism that he balances with glass-half-full sarcasm.

Depending on your outlook (the proverbial "glass") some, all, or none of these maxims Armin has learned might, or might not, apply to you:

      - You are not that good.
      - Two asses are better than one.
      - 75% of your files are trash.
      - Do the evolution.
      - When in doubt: Repeat.
      - Happy is as happy does.
      - Be inspired, not perspired.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Armin is a graphic designer and writer now living in Brooklyn, New York. He has written for AIGA's VOICE, Emigre, Eye, Creative Review, HOW, and STEP magazines, among others. He is a former faculty member of Portfolio Center and currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts. He has lectured on topics ranging from typography to branding in locations ranging from San Diego to Berlin. He is co-founder of UnderConsideration and its myriad of sites including Speak Up. His last employment position was at Pentagram. He now runs UnderConsideration's Department of Design.
